RESULTS! NBC hosted a food drive in May 2022, in Oklahoma City to 'Stamp Out Hunger'
UPDATE! Thanks to you, the NBC community, and a match from the bank, we raised $2,500 for the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma!
From Friday, May 6, through May 13, 2022, NBC is collecting items at our two Oklahoma City locations and donations online for the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. The drive is part of its upcoming Stamp Out Hunger campaign. Oklahoma is the fifth hungriest state in the nation. One in four children are at risk of going to bed hungry while one in six Oklahomans overall are unsure of where they will get their next meal. Every dollar provided to the RFBO helps them provide four meals to the food insecure.
NBC will match donations online and in person up to $5,000 through the work. Give online here. Drop off items at 6301 N Western Ave. or 13401 N Pennsylvania in Oklahoma City.
Overview
Over the years, NBC Oklahoma has shown its commitment to the communities it serves. Examples include:
In 2019 and 2020, NBC gave every employee $100 to do something good and spread joy during the holiday season. Read more about where their $100 went on our blog.
In 2019, NBC finished a three-year campaign by employees and the bank that resulted in more than $104,000 donated to The Children's Center Rehabilitation Hospital. More details are on this page.
Employees donate annually from their paychecks to the United Way of Central Oklahoma, Allied Arts, Positive Tomorrows and others.
Employees give their time as individuals to nonprofit organizations by serving on boards throughout the state as well as donating to and volunteering for these groups.
The bank regularly sponsors events in all of our communities that contribute to the culture and quality of life in Oklahoma City, Altus, Kingfisher and Enid.
The bank and its chairman, Ken Fergeson, have commissioned public art projects in Enid, Altus, Oklahoma, Shawnee, Edmond and more to make art accessible to everyone and improve community quality of life. The bank also promotes local arts and artists through its popular, annual NBC Artist Series. Go to nbc.bank/art for current NBC-related art news and our Wigwam Gallery website nbcwigwam.art for the latest exhibits, virtual tours and more related to our NBC gallery in Altus.
Other community involvement
Employees paid gifts forward over the holiday season
(November-December 2019)
NBC Oklahoma has distributed $100 to each employee to do something good and spread joy during the holiday season. NBC leaders were inspired by the widespread and meaningful impact that a recent church in Cincinnati had on its community when it gave its members money to do the same thing.
NBC Oklahoma recently celebrated with The Children’s Center Rehabilitation Hospital a successful campaign that raised more than $104,000 in two years for patient and family support services and for aquatic therapy.
Included in that number are funds raised by employees and matching funds from the bank. NBC employees decided to designate about $50,000, the goal of the original campaign, to the hospital’s family fund, which goes to support families in their homes, such as home remodeling for wheelchair assistance, and at the hospital, such as remodeling a centralized family room. Employees voted to designate the remainder of the funds raised for a new and badly needed aquatic therapy pool for the hospital.
Located in Bethany, the hospital treats children from all over the state.
“We are very involved in the communities we serve, and our banks wanted to work together on a project that would benefit each of our areas,” said Ken Fergeson, chairman of NBC Oklahoma. “We loved learning about what The Children’s Center Rehabilitation Center did for patients and their families statewide and we wanted to help.”
To raise money, employees paid to wear jeans, sold baked goods and other food items and held a Bedlam Penny Wars contest leading up to the rivalry football game between the University of Oklahoma Sooners and Oklahoma State University Cowboys. The Cowboys won the bank’s Penny Wars; the Sooners won the football game.
To date, NBC’s donations to The Children’s Center in the last three years have totaled $104,083.89, and employees are still giving through payroll deductions while considering possibilities for a future campaign.
“Along the way, we learned that the Children’s Center was caring for patients from each of our communities, including the grandchild of one of our employees, so that made our efforts even more meaningful,” Fergeson said.

(This campaign was from 2017-2019.)
NBC Oklahoma has launched a campaign to raise money for The Children’s Center Rehabilitation Hospital over the next three years. NBC Oklahoma will match any funds raised up to $25,000 as we go, which will bring the campaign total to $50,000 when it is complete.
The wonderful nonprofit hospital offers 24-hour medical care, comprehensive rehabilitative therapies, respiratory care and special education to children who are in need of services. These include children who have suffered traumatic injuries or illnesses, those with developmental needs and more, from throughout the state and region.
We at NBC have chosen to donate money to the organization’s family fund, which provides support to families such as home remodeling for wheelchair assistance for when the child leaves the hospital. That way, the money we raise will go directly to the families in the communities that we and the hospital serve.
The Children's Center, located in Bethany, serves children from all over the state, so dollars donated will go to help children and their families in each of our county service areas.
Just to give you a snapshot, from 2013 to 2016, the hospital treated:
25 patients in Jackson County and surrounding counties of Kiowa, Tillman, Harmon, Comanche and Greer (including people from Hollis, Granite, Altus, Duke, Blair, Grandfield, Mangum, Hobart, Snyder, Frederick and Willow)
42 in Garfield County and surrounding counties of Noble, Kay and Grant counties
39 from Kingfisher County and surrounding counties of Logan, Canadian, Blaine and Major counties
324 from Tulsa County and surrounding counties of Creek, Delaware, Okmulgee, Osage, Pawnee, Rogers, Tulsa and Washington
2915 from Oklahoma County and surrounding counties of Logan, Pottawatomie, Cleveland and Canadian counties.
We at NBC Oklahoma have toured this site and love what they are doing to help these children and families. Please support us in our in our campaign! We'll keep you updated here as we go along.
